ANNOUNCING THE TEEN ENGLISH SHORT STORY WRITING COMPETITION


The National Library of Maldives is proud to announce the Teen English Short Story Writing Competition.

Submissions are due by October 31st 2010.

There is no contest entry fee.

Judging the Competition are fine scholars in English writing and literature, both local and abroad.

Entries will be judged based on Originality, Creativity, Style, Technical skills, Content and attention to grammar.

Winners will be announced on the 15th of December 2010.

Be Creative; You are a Writer!

Teen English Short Story Writing Competition is

Open to all Maldivians WHO ARE OF AGES 13 TO 19.

No Set Theme.

Feel free to write whatever your heart desires. Write about any topic, any genre! It can be a thriller, horror, tragedy…. But make sure that your entry adheres to the following:

· All entries must be original works of which you are the sole author. No plagiarized text should be included in your manuscript. It should not have been published online or in print.

· Stories should generally not be less than 10,000 words, but we would prefer writers focus on great writing, rather than strict word count.

· A touch of illustration could be added if desired (Not Compulsory)

· A Story line prologue could also be brought upon if preferred. (Not Compulsory)

· Any story below the allotted word count will not be considered.

· All entries must be submitted in a sealed envelope and has to be tagged: Teen English Short Story Writing Competition

· Your manuscript must be submitted in accordance with the eligibility requirements, format guidelines and entry requirement or it will be disqualifies.

· Once your entry is submitted there will be no allowance for corrections of for any reason for that matter. So please do a thorough check up before you submit your manuscript.

· All entries must be accompanied by an Official Entry Form completed with the required information.

· The National Library retains all rights to all the stories received for the competition

· The National Library reserves the right to decline any entry that does not meet its guidelines.

· The 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Winner of the Teen English Short Story Writing Competition will receive trophies and certificates , as well as the featured recognition of Teen English Short Story Writing Competition

All entries must be typed in:-

· Paper A4,

· Color Black

· Font Times New Roman

· Font Size 12

All pages should be numbered at bottom centre

Please don’t put any identification on your Story.

DEADLINE

All entries are to be submitted by October 31st 2010.

WINNERS WIL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE 15TH OF DECEMBER 2010.

National Library has celebrated the day Maldives embraced Islam on 17th March 2010. In American Corner.
The speech was given by Sheikh Abdul Azeez yoosuf. Relating to this day Islamic books were displayed on the second floor of the National Library.
